Note: This is a paid internship position

At BackType, we're building a new kind of search engine. We index and connect online conversations from across the web, so you can see what people are saying about topics that interest you. Our goal is to be able to surface reputable opinions in real-time. In this position, you'll be helping us build our relevance and scoring engine, working with large datasets, and helping manage our infrastructure.

Role & Responsibilities

* Immediately make significant contributions to our technology
* Design, develop and test technology to support BackType's products and services

Requirements

* Proficiency programming in Python
* Hands-on experience with most or all of the following: Linux, Apache, MySQL
* Willing to tackle technical problems outside your core competencies

Nice-to-Have

* Knowledge of MySQL with an understanding of the impacts of indexing and schema design along with query analysis and optimization
* Proficiency programming in C/C++ and/or PHP
* Start-up experience
